NEW MEXICO SPRING 2023

New Mexico is a hidden gem and spring is the perfect season for photography.  New Mexico's high altitude means you can expect any kind of weather in April. From snow to rain to clear skies perfect for photographing the Milky Way, Spring in New Mexico has it all.  It's also the season of flowers.  Southern NM features blistering yellow poppies, lipstick red claret cup cacti blooms, and many other species.  Couple the color of the flowers with the long sunset/sunrise of the spring and you get a time of magic.

This workshop also includes a visit to White Sands.  Sand dunes are always incredible, but White sands is unique because it is made from the pure white gypsum from the mountains that surround it. As a near perfect reflector, the sand can be 60 degrees or colder, even when it is 80 in the air.  It also reflects whatever light shines on it so a blazing sunset turns the sky and the dunes to fire.  You will literally be standing inside of a sunset.

Workshop Philosophy

I view photography as an exploration. Each new storm, each new moonrise, each new early snow is an opportunity to tell the story of our adventure with a unique vision.  I want you to experience the heat, the cold, the explosions of light, the screaming joy of capturing the perfect scene when the final gasp of the sun's red breath heats a peak just right - or when the lightning we've been chasing for days lashes across a dark escarpment, lighting hoodoos and monuments as few have ever seen. When you're done, I want you to know that you have created something that is entirely yours.
